Wild and Coastal Tuscany: Running Retreat 2025
Dolce far niente. Literally, the sweetness of doing nothing. It speaks to the slow living embraced by Italians. While we won’t be doing nothing on this trip, we will work on slowing down our busy lives. Through daily activity of hiking or running, we’ll be able to immerse ourselves in the landscapes of the Tuscan Maremma on foot. With yoga and mindfulness, we’ll allow ourselves opportunity to intentionally step into another world.
Staying in a renovated farmhouse on a still active rice farm, we will enjoy eating local food and drinking local wine. Chefs will be on site to prepare regional specialties using local sourced ingredients. The food is a celebration of the rhythms of the land and natural cycle of the seasons. We will stay on the edge of the region’s largest natural park and the sea. We will explore the coast, hidden beaches, and hill towns of the region while also immersing ourselves in the local culture with hands-on experiences (cooking class, leathermaking workshop, farm tour, and wine tasting are all options).

Start each day with a breakfast buffet comprised of local ingredients. We will have a brief morning yoga practice and then load up to go to our run location of the day. Guided loops or out-and-back options before heading to a local restaurant for lunch. We will prioritize slow food restaurants with an emphasis on local ingredients. In the afternoon, fueled by some post-lunch espresso, we will explore a local site. Ancient Etruscan ruins, medieval hill towns, and local beauty. In the evening we will have a longer yoga practice followed by a dinner that focuses on local ingredients prepared by renowned local chefs. You can add local, biodynamic wine to dinner for a surcharge. After dinner settle into your comfortable lodgings on the peaceful property for a good night’s rest. The property is a short distance to the beach and bicycles are available to take down to the beach to watch the sunset or simply enjoy the beautiful landscape.
